Shabbat Shalom x2!
Next weekend we will be in Palo Alto to see Dan graduate with his MBA from Stanford ..... We are all sooooo proud of him!
It's hard to realize that some of you remember when he was born...He still has the kiddush cup that you gave him!
Let's see........Temple is a busy place.....Buddy Voit (married to Diane Shelly) played guitar at the Confirmation ceremony...I ran into Liz Marsh and her mom who are in the midst of planning her wedding this summer......You may remember her as the Raven in our first production of Noah's Ark!  I also saw Tammy Strauss and her family who were preparing for her youngest son's Bar Mitzvah!
We were at a surprise brunch for Gail Resnick Malkus (Camp Beth Israel etc) and saw Dana and Carin.......Gail is now the Rabbi's assistant at Temple!  Speaking of Camp Beth Israel....Steve and Sherry Makoff called to tell us that Jennifer just had her THIRD child...a little girl named Madden (or maybe Maddin....they hadn't decided the spelling) We first met Jennifer at Camp Swig when she was two!  And...I had a very fun catch up lunch with Louie Vener........He is doing amazing things with set design!
Last night our Minyan met here......I think we have been together for over 25 years.....I know you will recognize some of the families...Pinto, Gotkowitz, Kroll, Fine,Feinman, Gendelman, Rosenberg, Gotkowitz, Barsky, Morrison, Saidman (even though they live up north) and those who have passed away, Barbara and Maynard Hurwitz and Dona Shenkman....We had a pot luck Shabbat dinner and played Genesis Pictionary!
There is more news in the following letters!
I just love hearing from all of you!
Love,
Eemah

Okay, Eemah it's time for an update!

Yes, I married Jeff Silberman in October of 1999.  Yes, he married me too.  I am truely blessed by his presence in my boys' lives.  They need to know/love/live with a good man.    We have four children.  Alena who is 6 and just finished first grade Religious School with Kenny Jacobs as teacher, Laurel who is 9 and finished third grade with Dana Jacobs, Harry who who finished fifth grade with You know Who, and Max who had the Blessed Joseph Roditi who truely appreciated and encouraged Max's wonderful way of thinking for the sixth grade.  Yep, you've had two of the four so far....  We are so very happy living ,loving and praying in S.D.  And yes, my Jeff will be President of our esteemed Congregation next May.  I've so enjoyed singing with Cantor Arlene Bernstien in our Volunteer Choir, and especially had fun this past erev shabbat(where were you?) for our first and certainly not last "Friday Night Live".  I had the incredible pleasure of singing with all of my children and husband as well.   As well as having Buddy Voit(Diane's hubby) on guitar and Gary Hirsh on Drums!  Mr. Max, our oldest will be attending the 7,8 and 9th grades in Marlborough,MA.  Anyone out there nearby?  The Headmaster at the school(Hillside) is married to a Jewish woman who is involved in the reform congregation approx. 2 miles away that has 50 families.  I would love to know if anyone from my years, 1974-76 is in the Boston area or knows of this synagogue.   And Jaci, if you read this, tell your son to find my Harry at Newman, second session(shoshanim) for his first Jewish Camp experience!  His last name is Foster(just like mine!)

Hi Eemah!  Thanks for your continued updates.  Just thought you might be interested to know that I (and my girlfriend Michelle) and my mom and dad will be going to Jerusalem next week to attend the Bar Mitzvah of Naomi's oldest son, Naftali, at the Western Wall.  I'm not particularly excited about the timing, but we don't want to miss that celebration!  Naomi's oldest daughter, Leah, had her Bat Mitzvah three years ago, and my girlfriend Michelle and I were there for that also.  Naomi's other children are 11 and 9, I believe (don't quote me on that).  I'll let you know of the details of our trip when we get back, and let's hope things calm down a little over there in the meantime (I'm not holding my breath).

Love, Dan Kroll

Dear Eemah:
Thank you so much for including my latest information in this week's letter.  I always enjoy reading your newsletter.  It's nice to hear news about people I grew up with and (unfortunately) no longer keep in touch with... Please give my love to Lani and the rest of your family.
Love,
Marissa

Dear Eemah.
We are doing well.  Since I have a 7 year old, it was amazing to read that Jaci's eldest is off to college.  The East Coast definitely has some good things though I confess to being tenser since 9/11.  (I am trying to look at it as a tradeoff between earthquakes and terrorism.) Greg, who had never lived outside the Bay Area, absolutely loves it here.  Evan thinks snow is pretty neat and enjoys sledding in our backyard.  He also likes houses with
basements.  Ironically, I am the one who misses California the most.  Greg and I say that if we move again, it will be to San Diego.

My father is also doing well at 82.  He is living on is own and still drives at night. This keeps him pretty popular with his lady friends.

I enjoy the newsletter.  What time do you get to the beach??

Well, another of our birds.....the dove, Kate Haimsohn, just was married......We met Tony Pollock's new son, Nate last weekend......and we saw  Norman Mann, one of our old time teachers, and the following parents of Madrichim: Pollocks, Pappelbaums, Rozanskys, Stevens, Wolochows, Shores, Barskys, Kroll, Kirsch,
Lees-Witte and Goodmans!
I spoke to Anne Goldberg Nagorner this morning and we are talking about a Madrichim Reunion sometime next summer..What do you think? Maybe over the 4th of July, 2003?

Enjoy the summer......See you at Tower 32!

Love,
Eemah

Dear Eemah,
Well, I think I'm due for an update....
My husband, Mike, and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary
this summer with a trip to the San Juan Islands while our daughters are
away at camp.  My oldest daughter will be attending the Young Judaea camp,
Tel Yehudah, in New York, for her second summer in a row.  Are their any
other TY campers out there?
My younger daughter, age 11, will be attending a B'nai Brith camp on the
Oregon coast.
Up here in Portland, I see a few old Swig/Solel folks.  Most often I see
Gershon and Esther Liberman and their twin 16 year old boys;  Emily
(Georges) Gottfried (who sings for many services at our congregation); and
Eric Singer (who still folk dances for all sorts of Jewish events in town).
That's it for now.  Keep the letters coming!
Love,
Eve Berry
