I do love summer!
Remember…tower 32 at the Shores!
Ali Graff’s wedding was wonderful! T’was soooooooo much fun to see some of the old group! Erin Graff, Debbie Sandweiss, Dana Newman, Scott Goldman, Greg Goldman, Ben Barth and Becky Barth (and Becky’s fiancé)Jenny Stern and Brian Stern were there……Did I tell you that Dan Schlafman’s daughter, Sydney is good friends with Scott Goldman’s daughter Magen? And.in September, .Syd will be in Kindergarten at Beth Israel Day School with Alison Fisher’s daughter, Abby, Michelle Melden’s son, Daniel and Shoshana Feher’s son Avi !!
And speaking of Avi….Dan’s son Avi had a fun birthday party! Aunties Lani and Erin came in for the happy event. Friends included big sister Sydney, Tony Pollock’s son, Nate, Stacey Coleman’s daughters Emily and Kate, Alison Fisher’s daughters Abby and Rachel, Howie Fram;s daughter Maia, and Don Rady’s son Ian. Dara and Judith Wolochow were also in town that weekend and all of the” kidlets” got to play together…
I just heard that Lauri Kroll’s son, Jeff won the gold medal in the 800 meter and another gold in the relay at the Maccabiah in Israel!
Dan Kroll has a slide show of Lauri’s and Naomi’s families! I’ll forward it to Mr. Rick and see if he can post it on our Mad photo page.
Some of their kids look exactly like their parents did at their age…oooooo those strong genes!
Cousin Jimmy Lewis was also in Israel visiting Jenny and family..He ran in to Rabbi Phil Nadel in Caesarea and speaking of Rabbis..
Rabbi Steve Gross is now the HEAD Rabbi at another congregation in Houston!
Exciting news about our San Diego Community Camp!
The dedication of CAMP MOUNTAIN CHAI is planned for Sunday, August 28!
Everyone is welcome!
Air conditioned buses will be leaving from the JCC and Rancho Bernardo!
Alison Fisher Prager and I are organizing one of the buses…Sign up to join us! Bring your family!
None of this could have happened without Ed Samiljan and our own Todd Kobernick!
Hope to see you there!
Love,
Eemah
Enjoy!

Hello to all of those living in the "Lower 48" (Alaska
style) or the "mainland" (Hawaii style) and, of course those in Hawaii :)!
I arrived in Alaska 2 days ago. The weather has actually been quite nice, despite rain. It's kind of that crisp cool that is refreshing. The 22 hours of day light is very strange. I know that at 10pm I should be tired, but I don't feel like I should be going to sleep in broad daylight! One of those things that people can warn you about, but until I was here, I couldn't really understand.
The hotel they put me up in for 20 days is awesome.
It has a microwave, stovetop and fridge. Free washer and dryer, one computer for everyone here...so I'm taking advantage of the first time I've seen it open.
They allowed by cat to stay with me, which is great.
I could live here :).
I went to the hospital I'll be working at yesterday.
It was small (5 bed ER), but nice. It's going to be strange to work in a different place. For bad neonatal stuff, the staff told me that she usually takes the infant across the hall to take care of it, rather than in the L and D room...that's a little different. They also do all kinds of alternative birthing...to include delivering underwater. I think that'll be an interesting experience...
I also went to see the house Mark and I will be renting. It's nice. I think we'll be very happy there. It's got a 5 star energy rating and a 2 car heated garage.....I guess those are the most important things :)! Water and fuel are delivered to the house to huge tanks that are under the house. Yes, those are for our everyday water and fuel. Intersting. Oh, and it's a septic sewer system..which sounds like it's pretty standard here :). I'm not in Kansas anymore :)!
I have a new cell phone which is 907-647-2653.
My address starting the 28th will be:
927 McGrath Rd; Fairbanks, AK 99712.
Hope all is well. I look forward to hearing from everyone. I'll keep you all updated!
Love,
Becky (Barth)
Hi Eemah and David,
Thanks so much for your note. Yes, I got married last Sunday to a wonderful woman -- Julie Brown (now Harwood). She's a photographer I met in the Berkshires. We're leaving for our honeymoon to Turkey and Greece in a few hours. There were a couple of old San Diego folks at the wedding: Marla Becker, Larry Geller (husband of Franny Schrift) and Steve Gross officiating. It was a little hot, but the wedding was lovely, with some fabulous klezmer music and dramatic claps of thunder as we stood under the chuppah.
It's been a hectic time, as we moved to New Haven a few days after the wedding. My job at Amherst College just ended, and I have accepted a position at Yale as a dean of one of their residential colleges. I'm looking forward to all of the life changes.
Thanks so much for keeping me posted with everybody's news via your email updates. Feel free to post my message.
All My Best,
Craig
