Hi and Shabbat Shalom!
Is it really July?????
Hope you are having a super summer!
Love,
Eemah
Enjoy the following.......
Hi Eemah,
I am writing from Israel-- we are here for business and pleasure and I have to
say that we are having a great time. I had a conference to attend last week
and Marc will be attending one next week, otherwise we are hanging out with
friends and all that. The headlines made us forget that life continues as
usual- all the end of school year plays and parties, kids arranging playdates,
etc. Thanks for all your updates--
Much love,
Jenny (Lewis)
Thanks, Eemah! Back now. (from visiting Naomi in Israel) It was great! I'll send you some pictures when I upload them (my girlfriend tells me that's the proper terminology). Everything went really well with the Bar Mitzvah! It's depressing to see how "unbusy" the streets and hotels are. A lot of businesses are suffering. I'll give you more details later.
Love,
Dan (Kroll)

I am sure many of you have already received information about the victims of July 4th shooting at LAX, and the name of the funds to send money to help if you can.
I am sending this note to you because I feel it is important to do everything I can for Anat Aminov and her family. Her children were in day care with my children when they were younger and I have been a hat customer for six years. I can not adequately explain the grief and helplessness that all of us who have been touched by this family feel.
There was also a little girl who witnessed the tragedy at LAX and she is a good friend of my daughter Kaila. My heart goes out to her family in dealing with the ramifications of this tragedy as well.
The following funds are open to help Anat, please do what you can.
Aminov Fund
Bank Leumi Encino Branch

Dear Helene,
Thank you for keeping me in touch every week with news from San Diego. As you have seen, I'm not great about writing back. The only excuse I can give is that raising a family in Israel, learning and teaching is somewhat time consuming!
I think I read last week that you were in touch with Jennifer Lewis and her husband Marc who were here in Israel. If you have their telephone here or some other means of getting through to them, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. We are making a Bar Mitzvah in less than two weeks and I would like very much to have them if they are still here.
I just read from your most recent mailing that Rick (Ricky, for me!) Shumacher lives in Calabasas, CA. Interestingly enough, I will be going to Calabasas on August 1 for the completion of a Sefer Torah and subsequent ceremony for a community there. I will no doubt try to hook up with him. I will be in San Diego for about two days (the following Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6 and 7. I will try to come by to see you or at least to call.
You may know that I am still best friends with Yair (Ross) Kobernick and speak to him almost daily. His newly married daughter, Hanna, and her husband Yishay were at our home for this past Shabbos. I live with my wife Tova and our six children in a town called Beit Shemesh which is a half an hour from Jerusalem. Yair just got a job as principal of a school here in Beit Shemesh which has an enrollment of about 300 boys. Look who's following in your footsteps!
All the best to you and your family. Yerachmiel (Robert) Strausberg

Thank you Eemah for the announcing "I'm back," and looking forward to seeing lots of you! I understand that Daniel's child and our daughter Alexis might be in the same preschool class? Really great! Hope all is well,
Love,
Pickles a.k.a. Jennifer
P.S. let you know my new e-mail once I've arrived (on July 24th)
My daughter Amanda Barrett has upgraded her Jewelry web site, take a look.

Here's a message.....about aging from Barry and Joel Gendelman's dad, Max.
Do you realize that the only time in our lives when
we like to get old is when we're kids?
If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited
about aging that you think in fractions.
"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!"
You're never thirty-six and a half.
You're four and a half, going on five!
That's the key. You get into your teens, now they
can't hold you back. You jump to the next number,
or even a few ahead.
"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!"
You could be 13, but hey, you're 'gonna' be 16!
And then the greatest day of your life ... you become 21.
Even the words sound like a ceremony ...
YOU BECOME 21 ...YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there?
Makes you sound like bad milk. He TURNED, we had
to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're just a
sour-dumpling.
What's wrong? What's changed? You BECOME 21, you
TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa!
Put on the breaks, it's all slipping away.
Before you know it, you REACH 50 ... and your dreams
are gone.
But wait, you MADE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50
and MADE it to 60.
You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70!
After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!
You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle;
you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime.
My grandmother won't even buy green bananas!
It's an investment, you know, and maybe a bad one!!!
And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going
backwards; "I was JUST 92."
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100,
you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"
My wish to you...
May you make it (healthily) to 100 and a half.

Shabbat Shalom x3!
We'll be up north for a few weeks......My brother, Mickey's youngest son is becoming a Bar Mitzvah in Palo Alto......Then we'll be staying at Sea Ranch at a friend's place, then to Berkeley to visit with Lani and Erin and then through Yosemite and back home!
Hope you all are having a wonderful summer!
Keep the news coming!

Much Love,

Dear Eemah,
I've really enjoyed these updates--though its been a long time since I left
San Diego, its great to hear what everyone is up to, about their children
and their lives in general. I'm most amazed by the number of former
madrichim who have made aliyah to Israel.
We are doing well--but life seems to be pretty busy these days! As you
know, my husband David and I have two children--Ian (5) and Jake (2). We
just joined Temple Sinai in Oakland and are excited about having Ian start
Sunday school this fall--if you know of former Beth Israel families with
children at Temple Sinai's preschool, I'd love to know!
Again--thanks for the news (and thanks, Rick, for managing the site!)

Hi Eemah!
It was great to hear from you. My mom told me about running into you at the
book club and all that and how she gets to speak to the Women's Club, she's
very excited for that. I'm not sure what to tell you in terms of bio info, I
go to American University in Washington D.C. and I love it, I love being in
the city and I am really enjoying school. I have been in San Diego for the
summer and I am flying back to school in August. I'm not sure what my major
or anything is yet but I figure I've still got a little bit of time to
figure that out. :) Thanks for sending me the newsletter!
Love,
Debi (Behar)
