Hi Eemah –

A voice from the (somewhat distant) past…

I’m not sure if you remember me – I went to Hebrew School at the “old” CBI for years and years in the late 70s – early 80s (along with my younger sister Jennifer), became a Bar Mitzvah in 1982, and was in your youth programs for several years (although I admit I did not follow through with Confirmation).  I have been in Los Angeles for the last nine years, but just returned to San Diego last month to take a new job.  We are living in the Renaissance complex right down the street from the new CBI campus, and in exploring the website, I came across your name and was instantly struck by a wave of memories, so I thought I would send a note.  I hope this finds you well – if you are at CBI regularly and remember me, I would love to come by one day to say hello in person and re-introduce myself after all these years.

Warm regards,

Marc Channick

Hi Helene,

Happy New Year!  Thanks for always keeping us all in touch!  Fun to hear what everyone is up to and where they are now in life.

Melissa tells me she's going to Lani's this weekend for a baby shower; that's so exciting!  Sounds like everyone in your family is well and glad to hear it.

I continue to be busy raising Alexis (now 6) and Charles (now 4) and love being a  'stay at home' mom; Basically, most days I'm carpooling, or volunteering (at my temple or at my daughter's school...was even chosen as the Art coordinator, which is really fun given an art hobby I began some years ago, painting/selling abstracts) play a little bit of tennis lessons and have even taken up singing (and perform with the San Diego Choraleers)and take piano lessons with my daughter....Between the kids, my 'mom' duties and caring for our two golden retrievers, and frogs and fish, I'm pretty busy and very fulfilled!

I also have a new addition on the way to make things even more busy; due with a baby this Summer and am very excited!  Robert comes from 3 boys and you know me from 4 girls, so I guess lots of kids don't scare us away!

Well, life really comes full circle; just as you remember me with my affinity for pickles, boy am I craving them now!

Lots of love and Happy New Year!

Jennifer Berton Handler (pickle)

Hi.  As you probably know, Anastasia and I are expecting #2 in mid-January.  Ruby (2 years old now) will be a great big sister.  We will keep you posted as we get closer.  Just to keep things exciting, we are completing a home remodel/addition so that we can stay in our home in Huntington Beach for a long, long time.
Take care.

Ken Perlman

A huge sigh of relief.....I am going to Walter Reed for my fellowship FOR CERTAIN now.  I just found out that I passed boards!  Very exciting......

Mark and I have a great few months ahead of us.  We are going to Hawaii at the end of January, we're going to be taking a 4 day weekend trip to Anchorage (my first time anywhere outside of Fairbanks in AK), March is USPS in Portsmouth, VA and we're going to take some time before and after to spend with Dawn, April we're going to head home for Passover and hopefully in the May/June timeframe we'll be finishing up here in Alaska, and heading east!  Dawn and I plan to reunite as the dynamic duo :).  Ped world beware! hee hee.

Mark and I really looking forward to this next phase in our lives.  We have enjoyed Alaska, despite the rumors to the contrary.  Work has been challenging, but Alaska itself is a decent place to live...if you are adaptable.  Most importantly, we've found some decent restaurants...so it can't be THAT in the middle of nowhere, right?

We think we might have sighted the Northern Lights the other night.  There was no dancing, but there was a greenish strip accross the sky.  We'll take it.

Hope everyone is well.  Lots and lots of love.

Becky (Barth) and Mark.

Here are some of the really OLD emails that I discovered in another mailbox

Just found a photo from the past.  I'm in the top row...9th from the left facing Jill Witte.  What a great time we had at Camp Beth Israel.

Marissa

Sept. 2005

Hi, my name is Marissa (Schwartz) Brooks.  I can't remember what years I was in Mad...but I am proud to say that I remembered the song!  My Bat Mitzvah was in 1981.

I've enjoyed reading Eemah's updates and forwarded notes from people, and I have many great memories of Hebrew School friends.

My email address is mbrookspt@earthlink.net.  I live in Charlotte, NC with my  husband Adam and our two daughters, Kaylie (6 1/2) and Talia (4), and our cat, Lucky (4).  Adam and I are both physical therapists.  I'm also the board president at the Charlotte Jewish Preschool, so if you ever move to Charlotte and need a preschool, look us up www.cjpkids.org.

Many people ask, "How could I have possibly left San Diego?" Long story...but it is very pretty here...nice people, and a relatively large Jewish community.  The only problem with Charlotte is NO BEACH, but the occasional snowfall and the change of seasons make up for that.

The attached picture is of me, Adam, Kaylie, Talia, Bubbie E (my mom), and Bubbie G (my grandmother), who have both moved here from SD to be closer to us!

L'Shana Tova to everyone!

Marissa

Wanted to let you know we had a baby girl 8/29/-5, Isabella Lilyana.  We are doing great.  Here is a picture of her and her 2.5 ur old brother Max.

keep positive thoughts, get positive results,

Eemah,

I hope all is well with you! I just wanted to wish you a Shanah Tova.

-Shanna  (Singer,,Lori  Levinson‘s daughter)

Lshana Tovah from London as well!

Our daughter, Rachel, just had her Bat Mitzvah at the beginning of September.  The entire Rozansky clan made their way to London for the celebration.  Rachel was fantastic (I hope I am allowed to boast a bit) and very musical; she has a beautiful voice.  Because she had a mincha service, where the parsha (Shoftim) was technically for the following week, she was invited next Shabbat to do it all over again!

We hope all are well in San Diego.

Regards,
Deborah Rozansky

Eemah,
I hope that this year will be filled with good health, peace and happiness for everyone in your family.  Here's an update from Oregon:
My oldest daughter, Sarah, is in Israel right now on a Young Judaea Year Course program.  She is currently living in Tel Aviv where she is volunteering at an elementary school.
Rachel, my youngest, is a freshman in high school and is enjoying the challenges offered there.
This year, I am the coordinator for our school's Two-Way Spanish-English Immersion program and am enjoying the change of pace from being a classroom teacher.
