Helene,

Nice to hear from you.  Sorry for being a bit tardy in responding.  I’m living in San Francisco (wife and four kids- on bar Mitzvah done, one bat Mitzvah this year and one more of each after that).  I work doing health care venture investing. I am glad to hear that you are doing so well!

Jim Shapiro

Hi there everyone!  Very exciting news for those of you who don't already know....I've been accepted for my fellowship in pediatric neurology!  This means that anyone who plans to visit us in Alaska, better buy some tickets because we should be out of here by June or July.  This means that I get to study something that I've been interested in for a long time, and will no longer be doing much general pediatrics.  I will be non-deployable for the next 3 years!!!!  And Mark and I get to move (together!!) to Washington D.C., where I'll work at Walter Reid and Mark will have to find another job....just after he started this one :).  The only if...is that I have to pass my boards which I find out about in January...

Other than that, life is treating us pretty well.  We just got back from Vegas where Mark got to do an endoscopy course.  One advantage of being in the middle of nowhere, Alaska, is that you get to do things that would be done by a specialist elswhere.  I think Mark is enjoying that part of this job.

We're enjoying the snow.  We've learned how to "skate ski" and when it's warm enough (above zero) that's how we make the cold and snow fun.  It's been getting light at about 1030-1100ish (I think) and dark by about 1600-1630 (I think).  We're excited when it's above zero...over the last 2 weeks apparently it's gone from -32 to 20's....bizarre place.  It's actually very pretty, though.  Sort of a perpetual sunrise..or is it sunset?  The sun never really bothers to go all the way up.  The colors are really very pretty, especially with the snow.  And when it's snowing...it's even more beautiful.

I hope this finds everyone well.  I look forward to hearing from you!  The invite is open for anyone who wants to come see Alaska!  One thing, though...I'm convinced that the Northern Lights are a hoax to get people out here.  I have yet to see them and I've been looking at all hours of the night.  You'd think that getting paged out of bed at midnight should give me the right to see the friggin lights...but nooo, they remain elusive.  Others have said they've seen them...but I'm a non-believer.

Take care.  Hopefully write to you, talk to you, or see you very soon!

Love,

Becky (Barth) (and Mark)

It has been forever since we have seen you.  Here are a few photos of my kids – Elliot (10), Lily (8), Simon (2).  Beckye is in the second photo.  I look exactly the same as I did in 5th grade.

Hope to see you soon.  Love – Steve (Gross)

Just a quick little update for everyone.  Dr. Jeremy Goldfarb, and his wife Dr. Ilona Goldfarb are expecting their second child this coming spring.  Their first child, Jonah, has just celebrated his 2nd birthday.  Talk to you all soon.

Eemah - THanks so much. Mark is almost 5 months old. I can't belive how fast he is growing. Seth and I are having a great time. Here is a picture of Mark and my mother in law... Liz Marsh

What's Dana Goodman's email address?

We had done a dinner with her and her husband (went on a date with him through the Jewish service in San Diego years ago) a few years ago, here in LA and had lost touch.

My having taught 3rd grade at Hebrew school has come in handy.  Alexa is in 4th grade so we pushed her other Mom into letting us put her into Hebrew school in time for Bat Mitzvah prep but I needed to get her caught up so we did a few letters a week during the summer and she's feeling more confident.  Also cool that I can get her caught up in Israeli folk dancing too.  Thank youfor the gifts that carry on.

Shanah Tova!

Ok, I got on this time and had a kick reading the news and looking at the photos.  Alas, as you could tell, I'm still dim on many of the names and faces but it still brought back great memories.  It seemed like a magical time for those Madrichim.  Has it ever been that much fun since?  (It blew my mind that one of the Kobernick boys is a grandfather!!)  Anyway, you can add me to a list if you have one.  And I loved the picture of Marta (Fish)in the archives.  (I just saw her over Labor Day Weekend.)

We are delighted to announce the arrival of Zachary Charles Wolf ... he was born at 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, September 29. He weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and was 19.25 inches long.

Zach arrived on his mommy's birthday, and she can't imagine a better gift. Sophia's a wonderful big sister, and everyone is doing marvelously well.

We send our love and will send photos as soon as we can.

Hi Eemah,

I've been meaning to email for a while now and forward you a picture of my daughter Abigail Jessica Weiner, born March 10, 2005.  Somehow time has gotten away from me, though, and she is now almost 7 months old!  Crazy how time flies. I am still living in San Francisco and working as an attorney.

I hope to see you sometime when I am in San Diego visiting my family.  We were there in July for my sister's wedding.

Hope all is well.

Take care

Hillary Weiner (maiden name Small)
