ENJOY!
I really miss Hebrew Camp. It was one of the main things that shaped my Jewish identity.
Enjoy!!!!
Love,
Steve (Rabbi Steve Gross)
Hi Eemah-
Stuart Schuffman here. Just getting back to you about my bio info. Sorry it took so long but life is crazy for me right now (in a good way). So here’s what I’m up to:
I’m currently living in Brooklyn doing Broke-Ass Stuart’s Guide to Living Cheaply in New York. The San Francisco book comes out this fall. Hopefully I’ll be back living in SF at the end of the year. Before this I was doing some work writing for Lonely Planet guide books. I decided not to be a doctor, lawyer or accountant :)
Hope you are doing well in San Diego. I’ll stop in at the temple and say hi next time I’m around. Take care!

Hi, Rick! It’s Julie (formerly Bachrach) DeKoven. I hear my mom sees your parents in Palm Desert. Neat.
Great work on the website. I’m glad someone keeps it up. I had 2 comments. It would be nice if all the pictures in the photo gallery had a year. Even better would be the names of everyone. Wasn’t Steve in your confirmation picture? I saw you, but I couldn’t find him.
The other thing was about the lyrics to the Muppets year. I know you shortened them, but words were:
Z’man l’get things started
Z’man l’shira
Z’man l’simcha
Eem Madrichim (doot doot doot)
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I was trying to see the roster, but I didn’t know the password. Was it sent out sometime in the mailing list?
Thanks!
Julie DeKoven
Dear Julie -- How nice to hear from you. Thank you for your messages. Please give your brother my regards when you next see him or speak to him.
I am glad you wrote about the song lyrics. I think I just posted exactly what Helene provided, so I am also forwarding this to her so she can see if she needs to update her original source.
The confirmation class photo with the blue robes was the year after Steve and I were confirmed. I was helping the class that year, so I ended up in the photo for posterity. I haven't been able to devote much time to enhancing the photo gallery or labelling things properly, but I do appreciate the suggestions and will try to incorporate them in the future.
The password for the roster is <email Helene for info>.
Best wishes for a safe and easy move to Israel. Be well.

Thanks for the contacts. My address will remain the same. I’m not sure Steve’s email address, but I’ll try to send it to you when I find it.
My husband and I learned for a year in yeshiva when my oldest (Maya, just turning 10) was a baby. We’ve wanted to make aliyah ever since. Living in CA, Amsterdam and now Michigan were apparently unforeseen pit stops. We’re coming to visit San Diego in July in order to “say goodbye” to my father and grandparents, and show my kids influential places where I grew up. When I know our itinerary, I’ll let you know. Beth Israel certainly lit the spark in my neshama that led me to Orthodoxy.
Thanks again,
Julie (Bachrach)
Just a heads up that I will be faculty at Camp Newman from July 8-15. My son Ayani will be a camper there starting June 18 as will my nephew Benjamin Feldman (Jaci's youngest). Any Beth Israel kids who are at camp at that time, come see me!

Hey there!!! Mark and I are now in Washington, DC
(actually Silver Spring, MD- but who's ever heard of
that). I'm working at Walter Reed doing my child
neurology fellowship. As you can imagine, it's been
an interesting time to be there. Mark is working as a
hospitalist in Baltimore. We are loving the area as
we have many friends who are here. And as of last
week, all of my friends who were in Iraq or
Afghanistan are back- which is a huge relief.
The biggest news, is that Mark and I are 17 weeks
pregnant. We're pretty sure it's a boy, but will know
100% in a couple of weeks with a more detailed
ultrasound. As you can imagine, grandparents and
great-grandparents are beside themselves :).
Thanks for the updates. Hope all continues to go
well.
Lots of love,
Becky Barth/Garfinkle
Hi Eemah!
I'm in that picture of Camp Beth Israel on the photo gallery home page! It was too funny to see myself when I opened that section! Wow.
I was looking at the roster... Is Rabbi Steve Gross the same wonderful, guitar-playing man I remember from camp? Is that him? He's a Rabbi? That's wonderful!!!
Love,
Kathryn Adelson
Hi Emmah-
I wanted to check out the roster. Can you send me a password. I am having my second son in June and am getting very big. My sister Elana is in NYC teaching and Brooke is in Baltimore doing a derm residency. I hope all is well with you.
